We appreciate your continued support.
We would like to inform you that the standard specifications for our Crew Mail service will be changed as follows starting June 2016.
Current Specifications:
Emails sent from ship to shore: Plain text format only. Attachments are not allowed.
Emails sent from shore to ship: Plain text only, emails with attachments are rejected.
From June 2016:
Emails sent from ship to shore: Plain text format only. Attachments are not allowed.
Emails sent from shore to ship: Both plain text and HTML emails are accepted.
HTML emails will have the HTML part removed and will be received as plain text.
Attachments up to 64KB are allowed.
Previously, the Crew Mail specifications were set to only receive plain text emails and reject emails with attachments to ensure security and control communication volume.
However, with the widespread use of smartphones among crew members’ families, sending emails in HTML format has become common. Additionally, some smartphones do not have settings to send plain text emails, causing issues where emails from family members are not received.
To address this, we will allow the reception of HTML emails as the standard setting, even though this will slightly increase communication volume.
This setting will be applied to Crew Mail PCs shipped after June 1, 2016.
If you still prefer to reject HTML emails, we can configure it accordingly upon your request. Please contact us for assistance.
Additionally, the Crew Mail System already in operation on your vessel can also be updated to allow the reception of HTML emails. If you wish to make this change, please contact us.
As offshore internet becomes more common, the use of Crew Mail has decreased. However, allowing larger attachments in Crew Mail can serve as an interim solution until large-capacity communication is implemented.
If you have any questions regarding the welfare of your crew, please feel free to contact us. Thank you for your continued support.
