Dear Valued Customers,
We appreciate your continued support.
With the increasing prevalence of broadband communication on vessels, more ships are incorporating new systems such as crew internet services and big data collection. However, on ships with a single LAN system, the use of internet services by crew and data transmission for big data collection can sometimes impact the operation of the business LAN.
To prevent such issues, it is ideal to have multiple LAN systems on board. However, rewiring existing ships is challenging, and it is difficult to anticipate future system installations even on new ships.
To address these challenges, we have developed a new product, the “ORiON-L2.”
The ORiON-L2 is a type of Layer 2 (L2) switch that allows a single shipboard LAN to be freely divided into virtual LANs (VLANs). For example, you can divide a single LAN wiring into “Business LAN,” “Crew LAN,” and “Equipment LAN.” Moreover, you can freely control the communication speed and priority of each LAN, achieving the optimal communication environment based on the situation.
Unlike regular L2 switches, the ORiON-L2 can be controlled remotely from shore when used in conjunction with the upstream ORiON Plus router. This enables remote management and operation of the ship’s network.
Please refer to the attached materials for more details.
Due to the demands from cargo owners, charterers, flag states, and classification societies, shipboard networks have become more complex than land-based networks. Addressing these demands requires specialized network knowledge and technology, and a single standardized ship network product is often insufficient. We design network configurations that match the needs of each shipping company and vessel, using various devices, including the ORiON-L2.
