Dear Valued Customers,
We appreciate your continued support.
Recently, an increasing number of vessels are adopting broadband contracts via FBB and VSAT, and more shipping companies are providing internet access to their crew as part of their welfare programs.
Traditional methods of providing crew internet access primarily involved:
Total capacity management
ID and password management
While the former was easy to manage, it often led to problems with specific crew members overusing the service. The latter ensured fair usage but placed a burden on the captain who had to manage the IDs.
To address these issues, we have developed a new management method called the “Ticket System,” which is now implemented in the ORiON Plus router.
With the Ticket System, the captain can issue and print tickets for crew usage directly on the vessel, without needing to apply to carriers or land-based systems. Crew members can log in and use the internet with the ticket code provided on their tickets.
Once the allocated data capacity on a ticket is used up, the ticket code becomes invalid. This allows for complete management of usage and fairness among crew members.
Tickets are only valid for the current month and automatically become invalid the following month. Tickets can be shared among crew members, and additional tickets can be issued by the captain if needed.
Furthermore, tickets can be sold to crew members for a fee, with the collected fees being used to offset the satellite communication costs, thereby reducing the financial burden on the shipowner.
For more details, please refer to the attached materials.
The Ticket System is a new feature of the ORiON Plus and will be implemented in all ORiON Plus units shipped in the future. Vessels already using ORiON Plus can utilize the Ticket System through a firmware update or by replacing the ORiON Plus unit. In some cases, a technician may need to visit the vessel for the replacement, so please contact us for assistance.
Each company may need to establish its own operational rules for using the Ticket System. Please feel free to contact us for any questions or further consultation.
Thank you for your continued support.
Best regards,
