Dear Valued Customers,
We hope this message finds you well.
On February 28, ClassNK issued Technical Information TEC-1145. Given its importance in maritime IT, we would like to inform you about this update.
TEC-1145 is a revision of TEC-1114, which was issued last June. As a result, TEC-1114 is now obsolete and has been replaced by TEC-1145.
TEC-1114 outlined regulations concerning the cybersecurity of computer systems onboard ships. The new revision, TEC-1145, provides clearer definitions regarding the handling and responsibilities when systems are connected. While the cybersecurity responsibility for individual systems lies with their respective suppliers (Venders), new risks emerge when systems are integrated, necessitating that integrators assume responsibility.
The role of shipowners and ship management companies is to obtain the necessary information from system suppliers and integrators. There is no need for additional preparation on their part.
However, it is important to understand that the concept of “integrators assuming certain responsibilities” will be significant in future SMS revisions (cybersecurity measures). We recommend that you pay close attention to and understand these regulations.
If you have any questions regarding specific measures or need further clarification, please feel free to contact us.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation.
