Dear Valued Customers,
We hope this message finds you well.
We have observed instances where emails sent from ships do not reach their recipients due to incorrect time and time zone settings on shipboard PCs. Please ensure that your settings are correct to avoid such issues.
Problem:
1.If the time and time zone settings on shipboard PCs are incorrect, emails may be marked as SPAM by the receiving server.
1.If an email is marked as SPAM, it will not reach the recipient, and the sender will not be notified.
Countermeasures:
1.Do not change the default time zone settings on shipboard PCs.
2.When adjusting the time, ensure it is aligned with the set time zone.
Explanation:
Shipboard PCs allow for time and time zone adjustments. These PCs are usually correctly configured at the time of installation. However, some crew members may adjust the local time to match the ship’s current location. If the PC’s clock is changed to the local time of the ship’s current location without adjusting the time zone accordingly, inconsistencies may arise when handling time-sensitive communications.
Modern shore-based systems, including email services with anti-SPAM measures, verify the time and time zone of sent emails for security purposes. If the system detects a significant discrepancy in the time settings, it may block the email as SPAM. This action is taken without notifying the sender (the ship). Similarly, significant time discrepancies on shipboard PCs can also have adverse effects.
Please ensure that the time and time zone settings on shipboard PCs are correct.
Thank you for your attention and cooperation.
