Dear Valued Customers,
We hope this message finds you well.
As IT/OT systems for ships become more prevalent, addressing their cybersecurity needs is becoming increasingly important. Many systems require updates for various reasons, leading to more frequent program updates.
However, it appears that many vendors still use email to distribute update programs to ships. Unfortunately, due to cybersecurity measures, most companies’ email systems now prohibit the exchange of executable files. Therefore, using email for distributing update programs is not suitable.
In the past, changing the file extension (e.g., EXE to EX_) was a method used to bypass email restrictions. However, modern antivirus systems also block such renamed executable files, making this method ineffective.
For ships using our ORiON Plus system, please use ORION DRIVE to exchange update files. This allows you to safely send executable files to the ship without size restrictions.
For ships not equipped with ORiON Plus, ORCA Mail or ORiON Plus Mail can be used to send files directly to the ship’s mailbox. Please contact us for assistance. You can first upload the file to our site, where it will undergo a security check before being sent to the ship’s mailbox.
Cybersecurity measures have introduced various restrictions, but we are here to help resolve any issues you may encounter in system operations.
Thank you for your continued support.
